Anxiety Free in 1 Year

An agoraphobic's attempt to free herself from anxiety

About

What is this blog about?

Well, on November 4th 2011 (yesterday, on the date of publishing this page) I turned 24. I began to experience severe anxiety at 15, meaning that when I turn 25 I will have been anxious/agoraphobic for 10 years. I do not want to reach 10 years of my life literally going nowhere so I have decided that the year ahead will be my year for trying to break this thing.

Why blog about it?

If I don’t document it, I may try to talk myself out of this by pretending I never decided to do it. I also want something to be able to look back on and (hopefully) see how far I’ve come.

Another reason is that I hope that other people with anxiety can read this and be inspired to try to free themselves too. And I also hope that people who don’t experience anxiety (as a condition, rather than feeling normal anxiety during times of stress) can read this and maybe understand.

How will I do it?

With a couple of self-help books, some ‘hypnosis’/relaxation iPhone apps, and a lot of determination.

(Also citalopram, propranolol, and two or three CBT sessions I have remaining)

Anything else?

I’m also hoping to lose weight, get fit, and overall improve my health. But those are less of a priority right now.

Good luck on your journey toward being anxiety-free. I think this is a great way to do it with a concrete record to look back upon your progress. I struggle with anxiety myself and it’s a huge battle trying to manage it and keep it from affecting my life too much. Best of luck!

  2. I, too, would like to wish you good luck! If you keep posting, I´m sure your blog will be of great help to anyone who suffers from anxiety or merely wants to study it! Take care!

You’re going to conquer your anxiety! No why? Because you’ve told yourself that you no longer want to live the way you have been and you’re changing your life NOW! You’re already half way and I wish you all the luck in the world. It’s going to be a steep mountain to climb and there are going to be times when you want to give up but at the top of the mountain, the view is going to be incredible!

  4. Good luck! Thanks for following me, because now I can follow you as well and hopefully learn somethings from you and your journey!!
